Gabe DiMarco - Owner, Master Gardener

From my earliest memories, I found myself captivated by the vibrant hues of daffodils and tulips that adorned my mother's garden each spring. Armed with crayons, I'd translate the beauty of those blossoms onto paper, laying the foundation for a lifelong love affair with nature's canvas. Living just a block away from my Italian-immigrant grandfather, fondly known as "Papa Domenico," allowed me a front-row seat to witness his infectious joy as he cultivated flourishing gardens and vineyards in the modest backyard of his small city home.
At the age of 8, my family traded the city suburbs of Washington, DC for the rural charm of southern Maryland. It was amidst the woods and creeks of Calvert County that I developed a profound connection with the local flora and fauna. My mom and dad began vegetable gardening and I found myself joyfully taking over most of the gardening and ground maintenance chores around our new home.

During my college years, I evolved from a hobby gardener to a dedicated enthusiast. This commitment led me to complete the Master Gardener course through the University of MD Extension Service in 2004. Taking charge of the family vegetable garden, I immersed myself in the intricate dance of soil, seeds, and seasons.
Venturing beyond my own backyard, I took on small gardening projects for friends and family, honing my skills and nurturing my green thumb. A transformative experience awaited me after college – a 3-month sojourn in Tuscany, Italy, working alongside seasoned vegetable gardeners. This was followed by a nine-month stint on my wife's family farm in rural Venezuela, collaborating with local gardeners to establish and maintain a bountiful vegetable garden for a community of 200 people.
Returning from Venezuela, I fused my accumulated knowledge and hands-on experience into a small business. Rooted in quality, competence, and a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature, my mission became synonymous with making others happy through the simplicity of creating and maintaining a garden.

Gardening, for me, is a dynamic journey of growth, change, and adaptation, mirroring the evolving tapestry of our climate. I take both a hands-on and academic approach to gardening. I am a perpetual student of plants, constantly learning about new varieties, studying native species, devouring gardening books, and collaborating with local gardeners, nursery professionals and other experts. My journey in gardening is a testament to the belief that in nurturing the earth, we cultivate not just gardens but a shared sense of beauty and harmony.
